    Hi!
I like very much your blog! We are from Chile (South America) and planning to stay in Graz for 4 months (March-June 2013). We have 3 daughters, 7, 5 and 3 years. In your other blog I found some information about daycare and preshool, it was just what I was looking for!!! Can you tell me where is a nice place to live with kids. We are looking for a flat near my husband’s work (the ORL H&NS Department of the University of Graz). I will take care of the girls, and hopefully if I have free hours I can do something else!
    Regards,
    Pilar

    Dear Pilar!
Welcome to my blog! I am happy you found Graz4Kids and thanks for your comment 🙂
Congratulations about your family too! I suppose having 3 girls keeps you fit! I am busy enough with one little fellow who is now 28 months old…
About the accomodation I would have a look at websites like Homelidays and Airbnb because you could find a flat or even house for the 4 months without having to commit to a long term rental.
The university area is very nice. The district is called St. Leonhard and it is very close to the big, green city park with a nice playground 🙂
Is your husband’s office in the main campus?
In case you have any other questions, do come by again! I will also be posting more about things to do with kids here, so I will be happy to see you around.
    All the best,
    Sofia

    Hi Again!
I’m having some trouble getting information if our girls will have the chance to go to school and kindergarten in Graz for 3 months next year. I already send a mail to a kindergarten in St. Leonard’s strasse (is the area where we suposse to rent a flat, is near the university and also the park. do you think is a good area?) but no answer yet. Also the Embassy of Austria in Chile have no idea! Please if you could tell me where to start!! I don’t want to wait till I’m here to search for something.
    Regards,
    Pilar

      Dear Pilar!
Great to hear from you again! Your question is very important and I just wrote a short article in response. It’s about a service I am familiar with and it’s right beside the university, so I guess it’s quite convenient for you. They only take kids from 0-6 years old though…but maybe you can ask if they take your oldest daughter too, who is 7 if I recall correctly?
Hope this helps for the moment!
      See you!

        Dear Sofia,
Do you think we can survive in Graz without speaking any german? I´m starting to think it will be better to send my husband by himself!
        Un abrazo,
        Pilar

        Dear Pilar!
I am answering both your comments here. About the area in St. Leonhard I can only say that it is one of the best in Graz. You have the central city park with lots of greenery and space and a playground… then in just 10 minutes on foot you are at the very center of the city! There you can entertain yourself strolling around and possibly enjoying the museums and shops.
As for the language question, I guess it’s always easier when you do speak the language. However, I wouldn’t say that you are in trouble without speaking German! I didn’t either when I came here in 1998 and it was no problem. Of course with kids, it’s an advantage if you do speak the language but Graz is quite multinational and there are also some Spanish speaking families out here. You could have a look at http://www.expatblog.com or at http://www.internations.com to look for people of any nationality in Graz. Besides, I strongly recommend having a look at the Lateinamerika Institut Steiermark, which is a language school mainly for Spanish and it’s kind of the centre of the Latin American community here 😉
Don’t send your husband alone! Grab the opportunity! If you don’t like it at all, keep in mind that 3 months is actually a very short time 😉

Ja ja ja! I was just joking saying that I was going to send my husband alone! I was in Graz for 3 days last June and felt in love with the city (maybe I just saw the turistic part). I will start german clases today (I’m not joking!).
We are having trouble finding a flat for 2 adults and 3 children in St. Leonhards area. Either they are for only 2 persons or they are busy. I’m thinking maybe is not a bad idea to search for something when we arrive, but is also very risky.
    Un abrazo,
    Pilar

🙂 he he! Then everything is alright!
How is the German course? Ask for some Austrian German as well, because it’s quite different from the variant in Germany…
Where did you look for the flat? Maybe I can come up with other sources?

    Hi Sofia!
We already pay the reservation for a 32 squared feet flat (1200 Euros/month), where we will stay almost 1 month, and a 50 squared feet flat (1800 Euros/month) for 2 months. http://www.grazappartement.at ,this is the web page. For me they are veeeery expensive but look nice, clean and they are very close to the park. Tell me what you think! Also we need to stay a week when we arrive in a hotel or B&B do you know something bueno, bonito y barato (good, nice and cheap)?
We haven’t got an answer from the hospital kindergarten….will keep waiting!!!!
    Regards,
    Pilar

      Hi there!
Good to hear from you again!
The website and the photos are great! The location is also very good because it’s right in the centre of the city.
So you didn’t find anything at http://www.airbnb.com, hum? Too bad because then you wouldn’t have to move. Or maybe you could check that option for the first week? I highly recommend it.
And what do you mean by hospital kindergarten? :-/ Sorry, I am lost…
      But great that you’re coming!!!!!

    I will check in http://www.airbnb.com!!!!
    Thanks for everything!!!!
    Have a great weekend!!!

    Dear Graz4Kids,

I came across your blog and found it to be a good source of information about Graz. My company publishes an iPhone app consisting of self-guided walking tours in Graz. However, these walking tours were compiled three years ago and some of the information may be out of date. We would like to invite you and your blog readers to review the tour content and give us feedback.

If you would be willing to post a “Looking for reviews” announcement for us, we will offer you 25 promo codes for our iOS walking tour apps. Each of these is good for a free walking tour iPhone app download, normally priced at US$4.99. We have walking tour apps covering all major cities in the world and you may use the promo codes for whatever purpose you see fit. The bloggers we have worked with before often use the promo codes to host a photo/writing contest or reward readers for making comments to their blog posts.

For readers who send us useful feedback, we will also offer free promo codes.

If you are interested, I can send you the proposed announcement for your review. I look forward to hearing from you.

    Best regards,

    Xena Copilova

      Dear Xena,

Thank you very much for contacting Graz for Kids.

Please do send me the necessary information because I find your idea very interested and I definitely think my bloggers (and me) can give a good contribution to your app project by providing reviews or other input you require.

It sounds very exciting so lets do it!

Looking forward to hearing from you with more details.

      Thank you,

      Kind regards,
      Sofia

    Hi Sofía!
Sorry I didn’t answered you before in Facebook……time flora for me in Graz!
We are having a lot of fin here! We already been in Salzburg and Wien. Here in Graz we have been in al most all the spielplatz, our favorite is the Augarten and also a wasserspielplatz in Theodor Körner Strasse.
We also been in the Kinder Museum and the Vasata Atelier…your recomendations!
Sofía, my 7 year old daughter is going to Elizabeth Volksschule and Trini und Ema are going to Pludemanngasse Kindergarten, I contact a Frau in the Office of Junge and Familien and she help me to search for 2 free spaces in a Kindergarten. We where lucky because they can be together in the same group!
When I have more time I will tell you our experience with the Kindergarten and Flat renting!!!
